December 1, 2021: Our Bodies Aren't Objects, They Are Meant To Change

Gather round for a little body image chat.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
We're taught our bodies shouldn't change. And when they do change, we need to fight, control and manipulate our bodies to go back to what they used to look like.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
We purchase noom, buy the serums, poke our face with needles, squeeze into the tummy-control-tops.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
We try so hard to shrink. "Hide your flaws," we're told.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Desperately thinking we need to look this way to earn our love, earn our place in this world.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
But we've been sold a lie, so that they'll sell us products.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Our bodies aren't objects. We are not machines.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
We're beautifully, incredibly: human.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
And the only thing constant in humanity is: change.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Our bodies changing is as inevitable getting older every day.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Our looks changing is as predictable as the sunrise and sunset.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Sure, we can keep fighting.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
But it's a battle that can't be won.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
What if instead, we accepted change? What if we welcomed it? Celebrated it?
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
What if we unchained ourselves and busted down the prison doors?
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
We're human beings. Our bodies, our looks *will* change.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
And when we accept that: we're free.
