November 24, 2021: Learning to Trust Our Bodies

Here's the thing about learning to trust our bodies.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
It's scary. Really scary.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
When our whole lives we've been taught we NEED to control our bodies, control every calorie burned and consumed, control our weight, etc... of course trading in control for connection is scary.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
At the beginning of the intuitive eating process, it's normal that there's fear.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
We're letting go of an old way of being, the diet culture way of being, and learning a new way: one where we're deeply connected to our bodies and ourselves.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
But guess what? Anything new and unfamiliar *freaks* our our brains.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
And, thanks to diet culture, subconsciously, there is so much we fear we'll lose when we make this transition.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
So, yeah, it's scary.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
But that's the thing.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
It's normal to be afraid when we do something new.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
It's normal to feel fear and doubt as we practice trusting something or someone new.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Trust is something that is proven, earned, witnessed, felt.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
So, in order to build trust with our bodies... we have to let go, we have to *practice* trusting. We don't learn trust when we're still trying to control.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
That's why, ultimately, we can't trust our bodies when we're counting macros, calories, or points. Because those are *controlling* practices.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
And if we don't trust our bodies, we certainly don't love our bodies.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Trust is critical to any healthy relationship. If trust isn't there, we have nothing.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
So what I want to offer you is this: you can be both practicing trust and be terrified at the exact same time.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
AND: you don't have to do this alone. Having support makes this process way less scary.
